Partials and Complete Dentures
Dentures From Your Bourbon, IN, Family Dentists
Dentures are synthetic sets of teeth used as a removable replacement for missing teeth and adjacent tissues. They’re made of acrylic resin, sometimes in combination with various metals. There are several types of dentures, including complete sets of teeth and partial replacements. If your dentist has determined that you are not a good fit for dental implants, dentures are your next best option.
Complete Dentures
Complete dentures are what people most commonly associate with dentures. These replace all the teeth in the upper jaw, lower jaw, or both. These also come in two types: conventional dentures and immediate dentures.
Conventional Dentures
Conventional dentures require a healing period for your gums after the molding and extraction processes. You could wait for more than a month to get teeth, but these are also molded to your gums so you get the best, most natural fit.
Immediate Dentures
Immediate dentures can be used immediately after the final teeth extractions. They are more costly than conventional dentures, however, they allow you to continue eating normally as soon as you step out of the office instead of having to wait months for conventional dentures.
Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are used for those who still have a fair number of natural teeth remaining. These could be used for people who are losing teeth or people who have lost teeth in car accidents or other traumas. These are essentially available in two forms:
Fixed Dentures
Fixed, or permanent, dentures are anchored by placing crowns on the teeth that will be adjacent to the denture, and the crowns are then attached to the artificial teeth with a bridge. Once fitted, the bridge is fixed in place.
Removable Partial Dentures
Removable partial dentures are attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases connected by a metal framework. They attach to your natural teeth with metal clasps or precision attachments, which allow you to take them out and put them in at will.
